Created for younger jewellers, aged 10 - 13 years, this course is spread over two shorter sessions, and is a great taster for crafty kids interested in metal work.
Day one: Texture and metal means making interesting textures in soft jeweller’s wax, and then sending the wax pieces away to be cast into metal; learning to cut and stamp metal using brass to create cool charms or tags for pendants.
Day two: Just like Christmas, there will be an exciting parcel to unwrap when we get our castings back! Today will be learning to solder using a jeweller’s torch and silver wire to finish off a fabulous pendant you can take away to wear or give to someone special.
Young jewellers will be taught by experienced jewellery tutors, who have run several extremely successful jewellery workshops at Capital E, and who have a long history of working with young people of all ages.
Go behind the scenes in a professional jewellery workshop, learn design and metal working skills with some of Wellington’s hottest young jewellers!
Our course fees cover all materials for these classes, including tools and metal.
Each workshop can be taken by a beginner or a student with some experience in metal work, as our tutors are skilled at catering to a variety of needs.
Our courses are taught at a minimum ratio of 1 tutor per 5 students.
Workspace Studios is based in Toi Poneke Arts Centre, an easy drop off point, with the Toi Poneke Hub where students can relax and morning tea.
Course participants must bring their own snacks. Light morning tea will be provided.
