We’re very lucky to have this event here! Fernanda is considered a singular voice of our time. The smooth timbre of her voice is accompanied by the guitars and electronic effects of her band Pato Fu.
A household name in her homeland, the Brazilian songstress of Japanese descent is better known as the lead vocalist of alt-pop-rock band Pato Fu, who in 2001 were named one of the ‘Ten Best Bands In The World’ by Time Magazine.
The diverse singer, whose style has been compared to that of Suzanne Vega, is set to wow New Zealand audiences when she visits our shores for her concerts with her band direct from Brazil.
Fernanda’s solo album Onde Brilhem Os Olhos Seus has sold over 80 thousand copies in Brazil and has been successfully released in Portugal, Japan and China. Accompanied by legendary John Ulhoa on guitar and vocals, Lulu Camargo on keys, Mariá Portugal on drums/percussion and Thiago Braga on bass, the immensely popular front woman will showcase the timeless and universal nature of her music with new and interesting interpretations of genres like Baião-Techno, Pop, Folk and Soul, using beats, loops, timbres, and solos, mixing the traditional and the new.
An evening that will appeal to both connoisseurs of Brazilian music and broad-minded music lovers alike, Fernanda Takai’s performance – sung in Brazilian Portuguese, English and Japanese - will pay homage to masters like Chico Buarque, Zé Kéti, Roberto and Erasmo Carlos, James Taylor and Annie Lennox.
The Marae, level 4.
