Marvel at the size and elegance of the two remaining Waitawheta Valley kauri, and witness the ingenious engineering that saw kauri almost completely logged from this part of New Zealand 100 years ago.
This wonderful walk takes you firstly over farmland, then crosses a river to lead you up to the twin kauris and the area's largest kauri tree, then down the other side and another river crossing, it follows the 100 year old logging track through the bush. Bring your lunch & togs for a swim in the fabulous swimming hole or take a short detour to view the log dam, before heading for home.
Duration: 4 hours
Track grading: 4
Meet: Carpark at the end of Franklin Road, Waitawheta
