The Amici Ensemble returns to open Classical Expressions 2011. Don’t miss Brahms’ great B minor Clarinet Quintet! Brahms had given up composing, but then he heard the clarinet virtuoso Richard Mühlfeld and was inspired to compose a succession of clarinet works including this beautiful, autumnal masterpiece. Anthony Ritchie’s Clarinet Quintet was inspired by Mozart’s much loved clarinet quintet and written in Mozart’s 250th Anniversary year. Mozart’s growing interest in opera can be appreciated in his C major String Quartet composed when on tour in Milan as a teenager.
