The music that set the wartime dance halls alight and gave hope to many people during the times of WWI and WWII will be relived in this musical ANZAC tribute.
‘We’ll Meet Again’, features Wellington’s celebrated vocal trio, The Beat Girls, along with members of the Royal NZ Air Force Central Swing Band led by Squadron Leader Owen Clarke. During World War II artists such as the Andrews Sisters, Vera Lynn and Glenn Miller tirelessly entertained the troops and filled the airwaves, lifting spirits with optimistic songs that got feet tapping and skirts swirling! "Wish Me Luck as You Wave Me Goodbye", "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", "In The Mood", "Sentimental Journey" and "Tuxedo Junction" - many of these classics were the “songs that got us through”.
A backdrop of old war time slides and moving images will feature throughout the show making this concert not only a musical showcase of swing songs and dance tunes but also a night to remember…”lest we forget”. Wear your poppy.
The Beat Girls are: Andrea Sanders, Melanie Golding & Kali Kopae. Also featuring special guest vocalist Billy Watkins.
