On Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th of April, schools, businesses, families, volunteers and all others who love the beaches of Auckland's North Shore are invited to take part in the Love your Coast North Shore Clean-up.
As you may have seen in the media over summer, easterly winds (quite common during these hotter months) tend to blow rubbish onto North Shore beaches, so the timing is perfect for a big clean-up.
On Friday the 15th, school students, volunteers and local businesses team-up to hit the beaches, while the Saturday event will be open to the entire community to get involved.
We’re aiming to raise the funds, prizes and volunteer people power to get as much of the community as possible along for what promises to be the biggest event of its kind in the area, with huge results to match.
Several North Shore businesses have already made generous contributions and Benefitz – loyal supporters of ours for the past two years – are helping us spearhead this project and will bring their staff out to be team leaders in their own backyard. The team from Lantern Insurance (who already have valuable experience through helping us plan the clean-up on Rangitoto Island last year) will also be joining us on the frontlines.
If your school, organisation, family or friends want to be a part of this event on either (or both) days, simply register at www.sustainablecoastlines.org. This will give us a good idea of numbers and locations for our planning purposes and closer to the event we’ll send you further info, including final clean-up meeting locations and times.
At the end of the Saturday clean-up we’ll put on a picnic barbecue, so everyone who participates over the two days can get together and celebrate what they have achieved.
There will be a photo comp for everyone and a creative writing competition for school students. Not only will winners get epic prizes, they’ll also gain the honour and recognition of being published in the local North Shore Channel Mag. There may even be an appearance from the league-leading NZ Breakers basketball team…
If your business or organisation wants to get involved contact us on info@sustainablecoastlines.org
If your local school would like to come along for a brilliant day of hands-on learning with results that everyone will be proud of, contact learn@sustainablecoastlines.org
