Lift Off Levin 2nd Annual Lake Horowhenua Balloon Regatta

Following on from the success of last year's event, the Lake Horowhenua Balloon Regatta and Splash 'n' Dash makes a welcome return in 2011. The best viewing site will be the Lake Horowhenua Domain from 7:15am as the balloons come in from take off sites chosen to maximise the balloons' time over the lake. This allows the pilots to tow their tethered boats across the water for the longest possible time period - with the maximum sail time declared the winner. As an extra incentive there is also an aerial target placed at the lake edge for balloonists to bump as well for an additional skill test. There will also be some inevitable dips into the water as pilots work hard to maintain close contact with the water to tow their boats.

The regatta is well worth getting up for early on the Sunday morning as it provides a spectacular sight over the lake. As always ballooning is weather dependant, so check our website, Facebook or Twitter pages for updates, or listen to More FM on 104.2 in the Horowhenua for information.
