Come and join us for the free artist collective on: Music Education 101. All you need to know about music education at a 'tertiary' level. Featuring speakers from the 4 main music education providers in Auckland. The panelists all have outstanding credentials (see bios below).
Free Red Bull and snacks.

Godfrey De Grut:
- BMus, writer, arranger and multi instrumentalist.
- Co-wrote “Misty Frequencies” with Che Fu, winning the 2002 APRA Silver Scroll.
- String arranger and keyboardist for Brook Fraser’s multi platinum debut “What To Do With Daylight”.
- Arranged horns and performed keys for all Elemeno P albums and the debut Nesian Mystic album ”Polysaturated”.
- Recorded and /or toured with performers such as Scribe, Boh Runga, Carly Binding, Nathan Haines, Gin Wigmore, Opensouls, Seth Haapu, De ja Voodoo and the Rodger Fox Big Band.
- Currently working with Brooke Fraser, Anika Moa, and Tama Waipara.
- Producer for The Dukes debut album “Still Life” featuring the hit single “Vampires”.
- Professional fellow lecturer at the University of Auckland in popular music studies.
- Regular columnist for NZ Musician magazine providing analytical studies of NZ pop songs under the title “X-Factory”.
- Even played keyboards on a session for Kanye West.
Dave Bishop:
- 3 years as Head of Music at The Music & Audio Institute of New Zealand.
- 23 years of professional experience creating, producing and marketing New Zealand events, involving music, community recreation and the arts.
- Ex-event merchander for Seminal Advertising in Dublin, Ireland, including high profile acts such as Eminem, Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams.
- Produced the 2002 New Zealand b-Net Awards, telecast on C4. Featuring New Zealand acts Salmonella Dub and the D4.
- 5 years as event organiser of Music In Parks, Auckland City Council, involving 75 music events per year.
- 23 years of professional experience as a guitarist, songwriter, singer, teacher, columnist and performer.
- Coordinates and teaches the Diploma in Music Event Management, the Certificate in Contemporary Music Performance and Diploma Contemporary Music Performance at The Music & Audio Institute of New Zealand.
- Guitar Columnist, New Zealand Musician Magazine, regular columnist for NZM magazine writing articles on the art of playing the guitar and song writing.
Karsten Schwardt:
- Audio Program Leader and Degree Co-ordinator at SAE Institute Auckland.
- BA (Hons) Recording Arts, Middlesex University London (1st Class).
- Diploma in Audio Engineering, SAE Institute.
- 25+ years of industry experience as studio, broadcast and live sound engineer in Germany and New Zealand.
- 14+ years of teaching experience at tertiary level.
- Frontman of Auckland band The Electric Era, released three albums.
