Come join us for a friendly, open gathering of down-to-earth folks who love getting together to enjoy drumming, dancing and firedancing. We meet usually once a month on or around full moon where possible. We couldn't make it on full moon this time, so we're drumming on the waning crescent moon for something different!

Everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary. Firedancers, dancers, family and children are very welcome too.

Please bring: drums, shakers, percussion, a cushion or fold-up chair to sit on, and/or your dancin' feet.

Spread the word and share the love!

Hosted by: Ken McNeil

Venue:
Under the covered area in front of the University shops (opposite the lake), University of Waikato, Hamilton. Access is from either Gate 1 or Gate 2b, both off Knighton Rd.

What is a drum circle?
A drum circle is a gathering of people to play hand drums or percussion instruments, where we all sit down in a circle (or roughly a circle) and play together as a group.

Our drum circles are what we call 'free-form' in that they arise out of the spontaneous rhythms of the people there at the time and there's no structured format. It's like a jam-session, where you're all on drums. The beauty of it is that it doesn't matter whether you're a complete beginner and have never played a drum before, or if you're an advanced drummer, you can all connect and jam together because the group effect allows everyone to do their own thing without sticking out or feeling self conscious. The sound of each other's drums covers you, if you just want to experiment in your own way. You don't have to know what you're doing to be able to join in the fun.

For more information or to contact us, please see our website above. We'd love to hear from you.
