The Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix transforms Auckland Domain into high speed race track this Sunday. Trolleys on the starting line...green light, go!

Racing at the third Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix starts at midday in the Auckland Domain this Sunday, when the Lower Domain Drive is transformed into a winding race track that will test man and machine.

Teams from around the country have spent the last two months holed up in their garages creating and designing trolleys, in the hope they will be crowned the new national champion.

This year’s trolleys range from the iconic Buzzy Bee toy, a trolley in ode of the hit TV series Outrageous Fortune, Roast Chickens, Mr Potato Head, a runaway Port-a-loo there is even a giant Golf Ball. Rest assured, this year’s entries will be the most outrageous to cross the start line yet.

In the judges' podium is Tammy Davis (Munter from Outrageous Fortune), Amber Peebles, ‘Mad’ Mike Whiddett (New Zealand Drift Champion), Otis Frizzell (Artist) and Steve Dunstan (owner of Huffer).

Teams will aim to impress the judges in three evenly weighted categories. Creativity (originality, innovation and design); performance (showmanship of the team before and during the race – including introduction skits, spins, crashes and costumes) and finish time (race time).

Your race day MCs will be Jay Reeve, Andrew Mulligan and Hayley Holt who will keep the crowd entertained throughout the day.

The Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix is a free and fun day for all the family. So be there this Sunday and don’t miss the only race where fast is good but outrageous is even better.

This event attracts a lot of stupid people, smokers were everywhere in the crowd ! Why are ecological trolleys followed so close by a stupid big car when racing ? Also there was a lot of smoke/pollution coming from the north of the park, are people burning plastic there ?
