Eminent English conductor, Simon Over returns to open our 2011 series, and appropriately two English works are featured in our first concert - Sir Michael Tippett's "Little Music" and Vaughan Williams’ "Symphony No. 5" which is his most popular and lyrical symphony. It was first performed in the middle of World War II and was thought of as his “vision of peace”.
University of Otago Executant Lecturers Tessa Petersen and Heleen du Plessis, both with international reputations, will enthral the audience with Brahms’ powerful Double Concerto which combines inspired romantic lyricism with masterly craft.
