The Otago Museum is getting set for the school holidays with egg-cellent events set to happen throughout the 2 weeks. Open every day over Easter, there’s something happening daily to entertain every member of the family.
Discover the secrets of faces in the Your Face Here exhibition. Be snapped at a YourFace photo booth on arrival, project your face through to old age at the ‘Age Your Face’ station, discover what you’d look like if your face was completely symmetrical, and merge your face with your family and friends. Along the way, discover hundreds of faces from the Museum collection – from marvellous masks to ancient ceramics.
The Freaky Science free holiday blockbuster shows goes on a Chemistry Crusade these holidays, as we celebrate the International Year of Chemistry. Become a 'bubble-ologist', in Bombastic Bubbles as we explore the weird chemistry of bubble science, creating amazing, crazy soapy creations. Or strap on your goggles and get set for the exciting world of chemical reactions in Rambunctious Reactions! Witness the invisible water reaction, make some elephant's toothpaste and find out more about what happens when different compounds and elements get together.
If the kids are looking for a holiday filled with fun and excitement, sign them up for Discovery Squad! Overflowing with awesome themed activities which differ every day, Discovery Squad is designed to activate and stimulate bright young minds!
Alternatively, let them take a leap into the future with robotics with our Lego Mindstorm robots in Robot Rock Workshops. Control the robots to act like disco dancers, scurrying cockroaches or faithful pets with our awesome robo-challenges!
The whole family will enjoy hunting high and low through the galleries for objects to solve gold themed clues with the Gold Fever Treasure Hunt trail. The answers reveal a secret location of the lucky strike on the map, with a reward on offer for those who find it. The trail is available daily from the Search Centre, and is free.
If you’ve ever wondered why it was so much harder for Sir Edmund Hillary to get to the top of Mount Everest than it is for mountaineers today, find out more with the Mountaineer’s Gear Interactive Trolley. Daily at 3.30pm, see the advancements made in technologies which have assisted climbers in conquering the most extreme peaks on Earth.
Meanwhile, in the Tropical Forest, become a Tropical Survivor. Find out that the tropics are not just butterflies and flowers; there's wild weather, dangerous animals, poisonous plants and diseases that will make your skin crawl! Venture deep into the forest to take on tropical terrors using real life-saving techniques!
