The 2011 DriveSouth Rally of Otago is the first round of the New Zealand Rally Championship.
The NZRC field features New Zealand’s leading competitors - like Dunedin's Emma Gilmour and former NZRC champions Richard Mason and Chris West - in modern, state-of-the-art Group N rally cars, together with the exciting ‘Kiwi 2’ 2WD cars.
The event also incorporates the Dunlop International Classic Rally of Otago, for pre-1982, 2WD cars. Finland’s Ari Vatanen, one of the biggest names in world rallying, will be the star attraction at this year’s Classic Rally of Otago. This rally-within-the-rally has grown in leaps and bounds since its inception in 1997, to the point where it is the leading event of its type in New Zealand.
The event also features:
- A pre-event motorshow.
- Two days of rally action with stages described by international stars as some of the best rally stages they've ever driven.
- All stages are gravel surface on both public and forestry roads, except for the tarmac “Super Special” stage, run in front of a large crowd in central Dunedin.
