What we cannot see is as important as what we can. ‘Nothing’ is the important background upon which everything else happens. When nothing changes we know it straight away. We need empty spaces for things to move into. When nothing changed our universe was born. Nothing has perfect symmetry. We create something by breaking this perfect symmetry, like drawing a black line on white paper or introducing ripples into perfectly still water.
