Ellie Fagg - violin | Tom Norris - violin
Julia McCarthy - viola | Andrew Joyce - cello

The Puertas Quartet was formed in 2009 following a request for the performers to unite for a recital of works including Schubert’s String Quartet No. 14 in D minor “Death and the Maiden”. Within the space of six months the newly formed quartet reached the semi-finals of the International Bordeaux String Quartet Competition, the only British quartet to do so. Having performed and worked together in different guises over the past 15 years, the quartet share similar musical backgrounds and ideals.

The Puertas Quartet were invited to give a series of ten quartet recitals as part of a chamber music festival aboard a luxury cruise ship, an experience which cemented their musical partnership and their passions for the future as a quartet. As a result of these concert the group were invited to perform as Quartet in Residence for the 2010 Hendon Music Festival and for various music societies across the United Kingdom. The members of the quartet, graduates of the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, have studied with such eminent musicians as Eric Hobarth, Lorand Fenyves, Andras Keller, Rainer Schmidt, Walter Levin and Alban Berg, and regularly perform principal roles in London orchestras.
