A Victorian Christmas with George Henare and Cathie Harrop.
One hundred and fifty years ago the early settlers of Auckland prepared for Christmas with a longing for the cold and snow and warm fires of their homeland. So they created a unique New Zealand Christmas as close as possible to the seasonal festivities they had left behind – sometimes with hilarious and occasionally disastrous results.
Come with us as we go back to those days when Christmas was celebrated with dances and parties and concerts and wonderful meals.
Take time beforehand to view beautiful Alberton and enjoy a welcoming drink while listening to Christmas music.
Actor George Henare will open the evening with harpist/singer Cathie Harrop and pianist Paul Harrop. They will be joined by Dave Khan with his mandolin and fiddle and cellist Jennie Khan.
The evenings will conclude with a delicious supper with the performers on the veranda.
As the performers will be costumed we invite the audience to wear Victorian costume or fancy dress to any of the performances if they wish.
