1340 shoes to occupy QEII Square.
Art needs you, or more specifically your shoes, even more specifically any pairs of disused, servicable, men's shoes. As a dedicated Mo-Bro with a family connection to prostate cancer, Aaron McConchie will be creating a one day art installation at QEII Square entitled '670' this Saturday (26th November).
When asked about his motivation Mr McConchie replied, "I have created '670' to highlight the number of NZ men that will be lost to prostate cancer this year. It is a simple installation but one that will take hours to complete and needs the support of the general public to be a success.
'670' involves stencilling the footprint of 670 pairs of men's feet in the centre of QEII Square and to invite the public to fill these stencils with their own pairs of men's shoes to bring a personal connection with the work. All the shoes collected will be donated to North Shore Hospice for sale in their shops to raise money for the care of those that lose their battle with prostate cancer.
Mr McConchie commented, "I have participated in Movember for 6 years and although the fight against prostate cancer is only half of the Movember Foundations cause [the other being mental health]. My grandfather passed away from prostate cancer and my involvement in the charity is my personal homage to a great man."
The artwork will only exist for one day and I invite you to come and view the work and say hi between 8am and 8pm. If you have any pairs of shoes that are too good to throw away but you won't be using them, please bring them with you to be included in the artwork and to be donated to North Shore Hospice at the close of the exhibition.
