Papakura kicks off its festive season this weekend with two firm family favourite events: Papakura Carols in the Park on Friday evening and the Papakura Santa Parade on Saturday afternoon.
The Carols in the Park event will highlight youth talent in the community before bringing out the Christmas favourites in performances from local choirs and groups.
There will be food and coffee vendors in the park on the evening. Carols in the Park is a family event and is alcohol-free and smokefree.
The Santa Parade this year has an extended route. It begins at Central Park and runs north along Great South Road through the Town Centre, then down to O’Shannessey Street to return to Central Park, giving local people plenty of opportunity to see the parade floats.
The Santa Parade starts at 2.00pm on Saturday 3 December and features something for all the family: pipe bands, fun and exciting parade floats created by local community groups including businesses and schools and of course an appearance from the man in the red suit, Santa himself, riding in his sleigh.
The 2011 Carols in the Park and Santa Parade are free community events supported by Papakura Local Board.
