Try Revolution [Soup & A Seat]
(NZ, 2006, Exempt, 50 mins)
The 1981 Springbok Rugby Tour of New Zealand had been greatly anticipated by the white community of South Africa. In the midst of international sporting isolation, New Zealand was considered both a friend and a cherished rival. In Try Revolution South African rugby players and fans give their perspective on the New Zealand protest movement that disrupted the 1981 Springbok rugby tour.
Some recount their initial dismay that the New Zealand police did not act more decisively to disband the protest movement before a later conclusion that the apartheid system was wrong. Try Revolution also features interviews with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and a former inmate of Nelson Mandela. The documentary reveals how the actions of the New Zealand protesters helped fuel the struggle against apartheid.
Soup & A Seat runs until 24 September. Come in for a homemade soup and a choice selection of films. A cup of soup and movie screening for $8 only
