Michael Joel will conduct the Wellington Chamber Orchestra in a concert of classic masterpieces by Haydn, Beethoven and Mozart. Michael conducted his first concert with the Wellington Chamber Orchestra last year and they liked his work so much they asked him back! He loves the works of the classical Viennese masters so this should be an energetic and engaging concert.
- Haydn's Symphony No 78. This wonderful work in C minor provided the inspiration for Mozart to compose his K 491 Piano Concerto.
- Mozart Piano Concerto K 491 will be performed with internationally acclaimed pianist Diedre Irons. It is simply one of the greatest piano concertos ever written.
- Beethoven Symphony No 6 in F major (the 'Pastoral'). This symphony creates a vibrant picture of life in the countryside with its sunny first and second movements, rustic merry-making and storm in the third and fourth movements, and a resoundingly joyous fifth and final movement.
