Top musical talent to play at Whitireia Upfront 2010. Whitireia New Zealand has scored a double whammy, with music legends Karl Steven and Warren Maxwell joining the Whitireia School of Music students in a showcase event. Each year Whitireia music students put together a show and perform in front of live audiences.
This year’s show, a fully staged rock concert, will feature two of New Zealand’s iconic musicians. We have managed to secure Karl Steven from SuperGroove and Warren Maxwell from Trinity Roots, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Little Bushman said Dan Adams, Programme Manager, Bachelor of Applied Arts (Music) at Whitireia. “Warren and Karl will share the stage with our students performing some of their favourite songs as well as original songs composed by the students. There will be a number of kiwiana classics played as well he said”. Whitireia 2010 is a tribute to New Zealand music.
There is some great young talent in New Zealand and it’s a privilege to have the opportunity to work with some of this talent and help shape their music performance said Karl. “To play on stage with them is going to be really exciting.” The future of music in Aotearoa lies within these young musicians said Warren. “We’re going to have some fun both on and off the stage”.
A fantastic opportunity has been created for our students performing in Upfront 2010 with Warren and Karl said Dan. “For our students to have exposure to this kind of talent is both exciting and a great experience for them”.
Tickets for all performances are available directly from the Whitireia Performing Arts Centre, by calling 04 238 6225 or go directly to www.wpac.org.nz.
