An entertaining retrospective, in conjunction with the Going West Books and Writers festival, celebrating the groundbreaking work and extraordinary times of Kiwi icon James K. Baxter.

Titirangi Theatre presents "An Evening With James K. Baxter," featuring the one-act plays "The Wide Open Cage," directed by Verity Davidson, and "The Bureaucrat," directed by Duncan Milne. Both of these stimulating stories can be seen as a time-capsule of NZ during a period of enormous social upheaval, the 1960s, when celebrated Kiwi writer James K. Baxter created a thoughtful and challenging consideration of religion, changing gender roles and relationships, the role of the government and of the working (wo)man.

Still relevant and insightful today, young wordsmiths and theatre buffs are sure to enjoy the classical craftsmanship of an old master.

Also featuring "Baxter Basics" pre-matinee on Saturday the 18th of September.

In association with Dramatrain, "Baxter Basics" is a lively adaptation for the stage of Baxter's poems for children with live music by Midge Perez.
