Don McGlashan, who is widely regarded as one of New Zealand's finest-ever songwriters, will perform an intimate theatre show in Pukekohe at Harrington Hall.
He’ll not only deliver songs from his stellar career, but he’ll be interviewed on stage and take some questions from the audience too. That routine is something the crew at My New Favourite, who are promoting the show, make a habit of doing.
Having written classic tunes including Anchor Me, Dominion Road, Bathe In The River (which Hollie Smith first recorded) and Don’t Fight It Marsha, It’s Bigger Than Both Of Us, Don has a major catalogue to call on. His latest album was 2009’s Marvellous Year.
Don has been in bands including The Mutton Birds (four Top 10 albums in New Zealand), The Front Lawn (with Harry Sinclair) and Blam Blam Blam. Five of his tunes made APRA’s 100 best NZ songs of all-time and twice he was won the top Kiwi songwriting award - the APRA Silver Scroll (with Anchor Me and Bathe In The River).
Doors for his event open at 7pm with the show starting at 8pm sharp. Don will be supported by Matt Bodman and his band.
Matt is a 27yo piano-player who has impressed some well-travelled professionals lately. After seeing Matt at a private show, Greg Johnson, for instance, described him as a ‘pedigree musician’ with ‘some great pop songs’.
Don and Matt will deliver a similar show at 16th Avenue Theatre in Tauranga on September 25.
