Fresh from recording their latest album, Paekakariki duo Rosy Tin Teacaddy will perform on Friday 10 September.

Rosy Tin Teacaddy (Andy Hummel and Holly Jane Ewens) have been away on sabbatical to Lake Tarawera as recipients of Creative New Zealand and the Department of Conservation's Wild Creations residency. The residency is for six weeks but the pair have chosen to split the time into three two-week sessions. The result will be an album of ten new songs, as well the musical show Coffee Cups and a Porridge Pot at Frying Pan Lake which was performed to full houses at BATS Theatre in Wellington in May.

This is not the group’s first foray into location recording. Their debut EP Blind Leading The Blind (2007) was written and recorded as a five-day project in Holly’s cottage in Paekakariki.

2009’s full length studio album The Homeward Stretch was recorded with producer Lee Prebble (Phoenix Foundation, Black Seeds, Fly My Pretties). “The homespun acoustic charm of the music and its lyrical content in some ways at first belies the complexity of moods and musical ideas that are shifting into focus here with its sensitive orchestration and strong songwriting core.” - Mark Amery

Rosy Tin Teacaddy’s performances have included the Nelson Arts Festival, the Tauranga Arts Festival and they have shared the stage with the likes of Chris Knox, The Eastern, Jose Gonzalez and Iron and Wine. The track “Blackbird” was also chosen by film-maker Orlando Clairmont for “Clairmont on Clairmont,” a documentary about renowned New Zealand painter Philip Clairmont

They will be joined on the night by Janet Holborow who recently visited their retreat at Tarawera to record cello for the album and who will also play some of her solo electronic cello compositions.

All proceeds will go towards Janet’s election campaign for the the Kapiti Coast District Council (Paekakariki-Raumati Ward)
