Over many years, Sandy Adsett has become a byword for his work as an artist and educator. Adsett, as part of the Gordon Tovey school, which specialised in teaching elements of Maori art in the classroom, concentrated on Kowhaiwhai and has provided an accessible visual vocabulary to generations of students.

In recent years, working through Te Wananga o Aotearoa in Hastings, Adsett established the art school Toimairangi. Under his leadership, Toimairangi now has a national and international profile. Students of Toimairangi have the advantage of learning from two top contemporary Maori artists, Adsett and Chris Bryant, each with their own complementary strengths and perceptions.

Manukau Arts are proud to present an exhibition of work from senior students and degree graduates of Toimairangi.

Gallery hours: Mon – Friday 9am – 5pm, Weekends 1pm – 4pm
