Conductor Uwe Grodd and Manukau Symphony Orchestra welcome internationally acclaimed Viennese Cellist, Martin Rummel, to perform – with all the splendour of this glorious instrument – Dvorak’s mighty Cello Concerto in B minor, Op.104.
Programme:
Smetana - The Moldau
Debussy - Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune
Dukas - Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Dvorak - Cello Concerto in B minor, op.104
The first half of this concert features three musical works that tell very picturesque stories: Smetana’s Moldau, about the journey of a great river, Debussy’s Prélude á l’après-midi d’un faune, about a cheeky mythical faun in the forest playing his magical panpipes, and Dukas’ Sorcerer’s Apprentice, about a broom that goes wild!
From two tiny bubbling springs, Smetana’s Moldau flows through the Bohemian mountainside, to wend its way past farmlands, hunting parties and weddings to dancing water nymphs; through rocks and gullies to emerge triumphantly – calm and majestic – at the city of Prague.
