“I am completely musically ‘turned on’ by Spartacus R. Their music is well crafted and intricately sincere. Fresh, contemporary retro, and completely unpredictable...Beautiful.”
- Warren Maxwell, Founding member TrinityRoots, Fat Freddys Drop and The Little Bushman.
In the middle of recording their second album, Wellington psych rock outfit Spartacus R will abandon the studio for the road as they head off for Lyttelton this September.
Having only toured last month, forming new links between Wellington and Lyttelton SR appear once more. If you missed their last show but heard good things you have no excuse to pop along to this...
The six-piece group have built up a reputation for putting on grand, one-off shows such as Spartacus R in Octophonic, SR's Delusions in 3D, SR with Ben Brown at Downstage Theatre, and SR & Circadian rhythm project at Splore.
On this tour SR have put together a taste of tracks from the new album as well as excerpts from their pallet of one off shows mentioned above. Look forward to a compilation with some of their best compositions for this one off Wunder Bar show.
Ben Brown will be performing with Spartacus R as the poet. Ben Brown (Ngāti Pāoa, Ngāti Māhuta) displays a marked propensity toward performance poetry, probably as the result of an overt desire to appreciate the sound of his own voice in the hope that others may share his apparent enthusiasm for it. His poetry has been published in various anthologies and Radio New Zealand and The Radio Network have recorded him.
His work has also appeared on posters plastered from here to Baltimore. Ben lives in Lyttelton, Banks Peninsula.
