The Press Christchurch Writers’ Festival, scheduled to be held this weekend at the Christchurch Town Hall (9-12 September 2010) has been cancelled.
The biennial event was due to bring hundreds of international and New Zealand writers and book lovers to Christchurch this weekend.
Christchurch Book Festival Trust, Chair, Brian Phillips said that trustees felt they had no option but to cancel the event given the impact of the earthquake on the people of Christchurch, the damage sustained in the central city and the aftershocks which were continuing to affect the city’s infrastructure.
“We’ve received a number of messages of support from writers, publishers and other international festivals, together with all our funders, sponsors and volunteers. Our thanks in particular to major sponsor, The Press for all their fantastic support in the lead up to the festival. We hope to be able to stage the festival in some shape or form next year so keep an eye on our website for an update.” Brian said.
See the website for more details on ticket refunds.
The Press Christchurch Writers Festival in association with APRA (Australasian Performing Rights Association) & CHART (Christchurchmusic.org.nz) are proud to present The Insiders Guide to Songwriting.
Marlon Williams (Pictured, photo c/o Adam Gallivan), recent signing to Native Tongue Music Publishing from The Unfaithful Ways, joins a panel of experienced songwriters including Kaye Woodward (The Bats), David Mulcahy (JPSE, Superette) and Ariana Tikao who'll talk about their songs, their writing processes, influences and inspirations in the informal setting of Boaters following Dave Dobbyn's songbook session.
