Kevin Field presents his current research, "Techniques and Interpretation for Contemporary Jazz Compositions within a Piano Trio Context."
This event is part of the Music Seminar Series: a series of presentations highlighting current research at the School of Music.
Abstract:
This seminar will take the form of a lecture-recital featuring School of Music lecturers Kevin Field (piano), Olivier Holland (double bass), and Ron Samsom (drums) - collectively known as the FSH Trio. They will be discussing and demonstrating interpretive techniques and process, illustrated by compositions from their recently released album "Irony".
Biography:
Kevin Field, Olivier Holland, and Ron Samsom have performed and recorded with some of the top names in jazz throughout New Zealand and internationally. As a trio they have collaborated with (among others) saxophonist Nathan Haines, American guitarist Mimi Fox, Indian tabla guru Fazal Qureshi, and they were the band for vocalist Whirimako Black’s award winning "Sings" album. In 2009 they released their album of original compositions Irony on the Rattle Records label.
