‘Reasons For Silence’ is new work from Wellington artist Caroline McQuarrie. Completed while she was Wellington Star Mercedes Benz Artist in Residence at Samuel Collegiate School, McQuarrie has used an old photographic process called cyanotype to print images onto recycled household textiles. The work carries the repetitious process of both the object’s use and the photographic print, both of which are inextricably interwoven into domestic life. The images offer a second glance at what might otherwise be overlooked, drawing the viewer into a world of calm.
