Artsight's School Holiday programmes provide an opportunity for kids and teens to learn about and make artworks in a fun and inspiring atmosphere. Morning and afternoon classes are available for 5-10 year olds and children 10+. The three hour sessions explore a range of artists and media and processes with all students completing beautiful pieces of art to bring home.
- Monday 4th October
- Kaleidoscope 9am-12pm (5-10 years): Learn how to use a printing press to create beautiful kaleidoscope prints and painting using layers of colour.
- Me, myself, I 1pm-4pm (5-10 years): Bring in some photos of yourself and create a mixed media self portrait. You will learn about New Zealand artists who look at the theme of identity and think about who you are - and, who you would like to be! You will take home your own self-portrait to keep
- Tuesday 5th October
- Collagraph 9am-4pm (5-10 years): In this whole day workshop you will spend the morning making beautiful textured collagraphs and the whole afternoon printing them with various colours and papers.
- Wednesday 6th October
- Paint NZ 9am -12pm (5-10 years): In this fun workshop you will learn about the New Zealand artist Shane Cotton and the images he uses to create his paintings. We will teach you some basic painting techniques such as stencilling and layering that you will use to make two small paintings on canvas.
- Still life 9am-12pm (5-10 years): Learn some drawing techniques and create a vibrant still life painting on canvas
- Thursday 7th October
- Flower power 9am-12pm (5-10years): This fun workshop looks at New Zealand and Pacific Island artists who feature flowers in their work. Make a lei or wall hanging and a pacific inspired painting to take home.
- Picturing text 1pm-4pm (10 + years): Take part in a fun painting workshop looking at how painter Rosalie Gascoigne used text in her work. You will learn about composition and painting techniques to create your own work on canvas.
- Friday 8th October
- Layers of history 9am-12pm (10+ years): Delve into Wellington’s history and create your own painting based on the work of mixed media artist Sandy Rodgers.
- Signs and symbols 1pm-4pm (5-10 years): In this workshop you will look at the imagery used by New Zealand artist Richard Killeen and learn how to use signs and symbols to create a stunning painting on canvas.
All courses are $30 and include all materials. Please bring morning or afternoon tea and lunch if staying over the lunch hour. Book 2 or more places and receive a 10% discount.
