This exhibition explores the crossovers between contemporary art and textile, with work by 8 artists including Kapiti-based Vanessa Crowe and Brigit Howitt, and also Katherine Morrison, Katy Corner, Lauren Lysaght, Genevieve Packer, Jeanette Scharing and Gordon Crook.

The exhibition includes installation works, photography, film, weaving, tapestry, recycled blankets and sculptural forms, and presents fresh new approaches in current work by exciting and challenging artists who cross genres and mediums in their work.

It also includes a selection of work from the 1970s to 2009 by senior New Zealand artist Gordon Crook, whose textile work is well-known.

The opening is on Saturday 9 October at 5pm, with writer and Dominion Post journalist Ann Packer, author of Stitch, Textile Art in New Zealand, as our special guest. All are welcome; entry free.

Vanessa Crowe, Brigit Howitt and Katherine Morrison will give an artist’s talk in the gallery on Wednesday 13 October between 11am and 12 noon, entry is free, all welcome.

A screening of the new film premiered in the recent NZ International Film festival, Gordon Crook, A Life of Art, directed by Clare O’Leary, is being arranged with Shoreline Cinema Waikanae, further details to come.
