A series of 21 narrative-figurative oil paintings with a satirical look at the escapades of George Wilder, a prison escapee who skilfully evaded capture for months on end and became a Kiwi legend in the '60s.

Each painting has an accompanying extract taken directly from a press report at the time. Some memorable police chases occurred in our area. The exhibition also reflects the New Zealand way-of-life at a time when a prison escapee could capture the empathy of the nation.
