Jude Rae’s arresting paintings request quiet consideration and reward patience. Her still life compositions continue to draw on a roster of prosaic and now familiar objects presented in carefully considered arrangements. The artist’s acute eye and sensitivity to her materials imbue the paintings with a visual ambiguity and tension that belies these apparently straightforward depictions. Objects cluster and cohere in compositions that suggest a close synaptic reach. While each canvas manifests coherence, compression and density, fundamentally the forms are isolated within a field where visuality and registration are tested.
