24 Hour Book Sale

The annual 24 Hour Booksale will once again have more than 70,000 books on offer with book prices starting at just 50 cents, and magazines at 20 cents. Now in its 21st year, the book sale is organised by the New Plymouth Opera House Friends Trust, with proceeds going towards special projects at the TSB Showplace.

Described as one of the biggest book sales in the country, it usually draws about 7,500 people from as far away as Auckland and Wellington.

The money raised from the book sale goes straight back into the Taranaki community. Earlier this year the Opera House Friends Trust presented the TSB Showplace with a cheque for $107,000, which paid for 220 new gallery seats.

The most popular sections at the book sale are novels, magazines, as well as children’s books. There are also National Geographics, hobby books covering topics such as gardening, cooking, health, sports, travel, cars and religion. Students will find textbooks and the New Zealand Nearly New and Special Interest sections always reveal some special finds. An extensive music section offers CDs, DVDs, sheet music, tapes and records, and in recent years the book sale has added puzzles, games and a bric-a-brac section.

If you would like to donate books, good quality magazines or any other items, please deliver them to the TSB Showplace between 9am-4pm Monday to Friday.

The annual 24 Hour Booksale is being held from Noon Friday 1st October to Noon Saturday 2nd October at the TSB Stadium.
