One of the smash hits of the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe and 2010 Adelaide Fringe is coming to Nelson. Zeitgeist is an award-winning collection of raw and provocative dance-theatre pieces that reflect ‘the spirit’ (geist) ‘of our times’ (zeit). Zeitgeist weaves together the big issues of our age – spiritual apathy, terrorism, global warming – with universal themes, archetype and myth.
Zen Zen Zo delivers an apocalyptic vision of our future, realised through the maelstrom of eight bared human bodies on stage.
Zeitgeist is performed in Zen Zen Zo’s infamous dance-theatre style, which fuses Japanese butoh, European burlesque, cabaret, comedy, contemporary dance and performance art. Renowned for the superb athleticism and energy of its performers and the melding of ancient Asian dance-theatre traditions with popular culture, Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre is at the forefront of contemporary experimental performance.
‘It’s a style that is brave, unapologetic, a little bit crazy and completely captivating for the audience.’ The Scotsman
