The Antal Szalai Gypsy Band’s infectious gypsy rhythms are steeped with rich classical musical traditions, in astonishing live performance that is described as vibrant and sensuous. This is traditional gypsy, Roma and Hungarian folk world music at its best!
Antal Szalai is considered the best gypsy violin soloist in the world and the recipient of the coveted Ferenc Liszt Award in 2005. He comes from a family of gypsy musicians, he studied the violin at the Bela Bartok Conservatory of Music in Hungary, and then joined the Honved Ensemble, a musical organisation made up of a symphonic orchestra, a folk dance troupe, a choir and a gypsy orchestra.
His award-winning ensemble celebrates romance, passion and fire of the gypsy’s unique repertoire. Nelson audiences will be treated to a night of exciting world music in the magnificent surroundings of Woollaston Estates. Tickets are strictly limited for this extraordinary performance at the most intimate venue of their Australasian Tour.
