There’s something new in the mix for import fans when the 4 and Rotary Promotions crew roll back into town over the 2010/2011 summer months.
When the NZPC NZ Drift Series announced in 2009 that it wouldn’t be returning to tracks in 2010, there was a massive gap left in New Zealand drifting circles. However, already this year, there has been great speculation over the future of the NZ Drift Series, with rumours of its return to the track at a future point. And thanks to the man behind New Zealand’s biggest import showcases, 4 and Rotary Promotions’ Azhar Bhamji, the NZPC NZ Drift Series will be back to its smokey ways later this year as it joins the 4 and Rotary Promotions stable of events.
While the 2009 and 2010 4&Rotary North Island Jamboree events have incorporated drifting, Azhar and his dedicated team will be running the drift events under the banner of the 4 and Rotary and NZPC NZ Drift Nationals as a separate championship. These events will run alongside the static show, demonstration and Wynn’s Racing Super Lap events the 4 and Rotary Promotions team already runs.
The first of the NZ Drift Nationals events will kick off this coming Labour Weekend in conjunction with Manukau City Council’s “Full Throttle” Labour Weekend of Wheels. Known as the 4&Rotary Supershow, the event will mark the opening round, run in a street-drift-style event. It will also incorporate the opening round of the Show and Shine championship (NZISCC), too. Best of all – this event is free for all, spectators and competitors alike! The second event on the calendar – and also another dual-event – will see the competition debut for drifting and Super Lap racing at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, and will offer an exciting drive for competitors of both disciplines. The third event in the 2010/2011 schedule is the NZV8 vs. NZ Performance Car heads-up drag meet at Fram Autolite Dragway, Meremere. Points gained from this meeting will count towards the NZ Import Drag Racing Championship (NZIDRC).
Following these three new events, it will be business as usual as the annual "V 4&Rotary Nationals", "V 4&Rotary South Island Champs" and "V 4&Rotary North Island Jamboree" swing into gear to offer NZ its best offering of import action. To cap the season off, the 4 and Rotary Promotions team has something a little different in mind. Shifting away from the prizegiving ceremonies typically held at 4&Rotary events, it’s all going to go down in an official, end of season blowout –red carpet, black ties and more like NZ Music Awards but all about our car culture. This will be the import party to end all import parties! There’s a lot happening over the coming summer months, so be sure to get along and support the events that make the import scene what it is.
