Join one of this year’s judges, artist Peter Gibson-Smith, as he shares some of his perspectives on the works of the winners and selected finalists in a preview of the Wallace Art Awards exhibition at TheNewDowse.

The Wallace Art Awards provide recognition for emerging contemporary artists and has established itself as the longest running and most generous annual art award of its kind in Australasia, representing the best of New Zealand’s cutting edge contemporary art.

Peter Gibson-Smith has been the recipient of several grants and prestigious awards including the Frances Hodgkins Fellowship in 1993 and the Wallace Art Award in 2001. His work has been exhibited in numerous solo exhibitions at both public and dealer galleries throughout New Zealand, and his work is found in many public collections. Peter will give a short talk before taking us through the exhibition to discuss various pieces and why they were selected. He will also provide insight on how the winner was chosen. The evening also includes the presentation of the NZ Student Craft/Design Award 2010, with the winning entries displayed on the night. This annual award is fully sponsored by TheNewDowse Friends.

Meet at TheNewDowse where drinks & nibbles will be served from 6pm.

Bookings required as numbers are limited. Email: dowsefriends@gmail.com or phone: Diana (04) 565 0544.
