A talk by Alexander Turnbull Library specialist staff. Images of beehives to buzz-cuts, wool weaving to wearable arts and funerals to fetes, the Alexander Turnbull Library’s photographic collections tell stories of New Zealanders and their everyday lives.
The collections are made up of around five million images dating from the 1850s to today. In 1954, Raymond Hargreaves donated a collection of glass plate negatives taken on the East Coast, documenting the wool industry in the region. In 2010, Barbara Ker-Mann donated a beautiful album of photographs of Presbyterian Māori Mission activities in Tuhoe region, featuring detailed views of Rua Kenana's community at Maungapohatu.
Come along to hear more about these collections and other photographic materials relating to Gisborne that are held in the Turnbull.
Speakers: John Sullivan, Curator, Photographic Archive and Ronald Milne, Associate Chief Librarian, Research.
