The Bailies Bar Heritage Week Quiz Night is both a tradition and a highlight of Beca Heritage Week. While it follows a traditional format there are always a few surprises for participants and this year's event will be no exception.
In keeping with this year's theme - On The Horizon: Rediscover the Settlement of Our City - participants will "board" one of the First Four Ships that carried settlers into the region and will be taken on a journey across the oceans to discover new land.
The ship will have space for both colonists and emigrants. The colonists will travel as cabin passengers and will be given money to buy land in the new settlement towns of Lyttelton and Christchurch; these people will be earmarked as the future leaders of the new colony. The emigrants, however, will travel in steerage and become the labourers, tradesmen and domestic servants in their new homeland. Cabin passenger allocation will likely fill up fast so book your team in early to avoid a future of hard labour.
The Town Crier will make the Boarding Call to get the voyage underway and then Ship Captain and Quiz Master, Dean Lester, will ensure a safe sailing to your new land.
