One of New Zealand’s most iconic cycling events, the Five Passes Tour, will this year celebrate its 10th anniversary.
Over the last decade over 600 cyclists have enjoyed the unique event in which they ride along breathtaking scenery and over the South Island’s five passes – Evans, Weka, Lewis, Arthur's and Porters – starting and ending in Christchurch with overnight stops in Hanmer Springs, Greymouth and Arthur’s Pass.
“The Five Passes Tour is a fun, friendly four day cycling tour. Its purpose is to allow entrants to experience an enjoyable fully supported four day bike tour with the Tour de France-style yellow jerseys, King of the Mountain sprints and team time trials, just like the pro-riders,” said Peter O’Brien, Event Director for the Five Passes Tour.
“Riders travel a total distance of 600kms over four days with each day broken into stages – almost half the total distance is ‘neutral’ riding with no racing, which makes completing the tour an achievable goal and gives riders lots of time to recover and enjoy the scenery and company of other riders,” continued Mr O’Brien.
“We want people to have fun on and off the bike and it is a very social event – riders are encouraged to enter in teams of four, and there are fantastic prizes up for grabs for individuals and teams,” he continued.
Entries are strictly limited to 100 and are filling up fast for the 10th anniversary tour – it costs only $1280 to register which includes accommodation for three nights, all meals, prizes, on-road nutrition and support team personnel and vehicles.
Reserve your place with a $150 deposit with the remainder due on August 31, 2010.
