CWA works to foster and encourage local participation in windsports.
CWA had its beginnings in the early 1990's as the Canterbury Windsurfing Association. As the original name suggests, it was initially formed by and for windsurfers. In 2005 it changed its name
to the Canterbury Windsports Association in recognition of the growth of kiting, and wider interest in windsports on water, land and snow.
