Korean Culture Festival is targeted for everyone - from young kids to adults - for all families. It is to celebrate the diversity of culture within the Christchurch community and “DynaMix”, the title of the event, reflects what this year’s programme is about. The festival will provide opportunity to different ethnic groups to understand each others’ cultures. What is unique about this event is that it will not only showcase traditional aspects of different cultures, but also celebrate contemporary youth culture of our growing young community by having hip hop culture encompassed among them.
The Korean Society of Christchurch has hosted this festival every year. This year, we have a very active programme that brings our dynamic aspect of culture, such as Taekwondo demonstrations. An African and a Japanese percussion performance will savour the diversity in the event.
The estimated number of spectators is approximately 4,000. It will be open for all members of families to enjoy the show. The estimated number of participants is around 300. We believe this is a good investment for the community and will create more interaction within the diverse cultures in Christchurch. The Korean Society of Christchurch has informed Christchurch City Council of our allocating the first week of October 2010 as ‘Korean Week’, and this project is considered to be the acme of that week. It has significant importance because the first week of October is celebrated as the establishment of Korea and our language in history.
For making the project successful, the Society gratefully has been funded by Christchurch City Council and the Canterbury Community Trust and Overseas Korean Foundation.
We give our special thanks to Voice TV who has become one of the most popular local TV stations to the viewers in Canterbury. Voice TV is about to expand its broadcasting sphere to Auckland in the near future and we are very proud of hosting this event with the help of Voice TV in presentation, promotion, photography, and broadcasting of this event.
As the sole host of this event, the Korean Society of Christchurch and 5,000 Korean community people have been eagerly waiting for this project and worked hard.
