Beauty Queen of Leenane is an alarming blend of hysterical comedy, pathos and the most bleak tragedy. A story of love, affection and an all consuming animosity that will eventually if not stopped, lead to the inevitable explosion of rage that will consume all who are near.
The play centres on two women; mother and daughter and the relationship between them that slowly breaks down and consumes both with a hate that would break teeth. A story that shows that the line between sanity and madness is a very, very small step and which deals with the love, hate and passion that lies very close to the surface in all of us.
Beauty Queen of Leenane rocketed playwright Martin McDonagh to fame when it opened in the West End in 1996. McDonagh wrote the play in just eight days.
With the Beauty Queen of Leenane director Brian Keegan completes McDonagh's trilogy having previously presented "Lonesome West" and "A Skull in Connemara" with Shoreside Theatre.
