The house event this side of Xmas for Halloween, we will be blessed at Acapella with two very special guests, The Swing Junkies & saxophone extraordinary, Lewis McCallum!
With support from our Acapella resident DJs Nanite & Dubby24, we're sure to have a hell of a night bringing you the devilishly highest quality house of 2010!
The Swing Junkies:
The Swing Junkies are a fantastic duo made up of Chris King & Jo Long. Chris has been a DJ for over 20 years. His biggest gigs were at Ministry of Sound in London for the MOBO awards and Frisky. He has also played at Vibes and had his very own night called Rise here in Auckland.
Chris is also a producer and delves into genres playing everything from deep to progressive house, but now firmly playing an anything goes approach to all house with a funk element.
Jo is breaking into the scene and having played at a number of underground parties, her unique blend of funk, disco inspired house and jackin' house, with some tougher elements thrown in really take it to the crowd.
The Swing Junkies will raise the roof and leave you wanting more. Influenced heavily by Inland Knights, their sound is fresh and based around jacking house but will lead into tech house and a kinda hybrid jacking electro...
Lewis McCallum is one of New Zealand's most exciting and innovative musicians, well known for dealing out fiery shows on the saxophone in the clubs of Auckland. Lewis brings his deep knowledge of jazz to the stage and studio, fusing it with modern forms of dance and beats culture, resulting in a truly unique sound.
Lewis is a well established producer, having created two albums of his own original music: Wake (2007) and Syntheology (2010) which will be released in Japan on the label Wonderful Noise. Both albums feature NZ's premiere vocalists; Mara TK, Francis Kora, Esther Stephens, Tama Waipara, Cherie Mathieson, Deva Mahal.
Lewis has also worked with Riki Gooch (Eru Dangerspiel), Hollie Smith, Opensouls, Relax-o-matic Project, Batucada Sound Machine and also played a large role in recording Julien Dyne's Pins & Digits album.
"Lewis McCallum is one of those rare musicians who is not afraid to embrace the new, while retaining elements of jazz & soul in his music. His time is now, so listen up!" - Nathan Haines.
"McCallum is making music for the love of it, and it shows in how effortless, deep, and inventive it sounds.” 4 stars - NZ HERALD - Scott Kara
