Fiddlelore play fiddle music of Scotland and Cape Breton with a joy and exuberance that has endeared them to audiences everywhere they go. With a rapidly expanding repertoire of both traditional and original material, the girls also incorporate a variety of instruments and vocal items into their fun, foot-stomping performances.
A vibrant group of three young girls, Grace Stevenson, Kathleen Wojcik, and Emily Roughton, play Scottish fiddle with foot-stomping rhythm, style and pizzazz! They are accompanied by award-winning singer / guitarist Penelope Foote, and guitarist Mark Mazengarb who joined forces with the girls after hearing them perform at the Auckland Folk Festival in January 2008.
Together, their styles range from Scottish fiddle to gypsy swing, with Mazengarb’s superb bluegrass influence adding another level to this colourful bunch.
If you've ever wondered what banjos in the future might sound like, Alex & BB might be able to help. By combining the 5-string banjo and the Irish tenor banjo, BB and Alex Borwick have created a sound that calls upon their musical backgrounds including bluegrass, Celtic, jazz, and even classical. Their repertoire includes music old and new, and a healthy dose of original compositions. They have proven that it is possible to play two banjos in tune with each other, and their approach gives their music a contemporary flavour, without a hillbilly in sight.
Alex & BB have recently finished their debut EP, entitled Alex & BB Play Banjo. It's a small taste of the music they've created so far together, with a notes per second average that would make the mind boggle. The EP confirms this duo's reputation as musicians playing banjo, rather than banjo players making music.
