(NZ, 1985, Exempt, 60 mins)

Film maker Willie Keddell presents The Maintenance of Silence a film he made in 1985 about the detonation of a bomb at the Whanganui Computer Centre.

On November 18 1982, a 22-year old Aucklander, Neil Roberts, daubed a washroom wall with the graffiti slogan: ‘We have maintained a silence closely resembling stupidity’. He then placed a bomb outside the State Security Computer Centre at Whanganui where files are kept on all citizens. The bomb blew him to pieces.

The Maintenance of Silence was made in 1985 by New Zealand artist and film maker William Keddell. Now based in Miami, Keddell has briefly returned to New Zealand and will present his film at the Film Archive.

Note: The film is 25 minutes. The screening will be introduced by Keddell who will be available for a question and answer session after the film.
