This is a fast, racy and funny piece of nonsense in the best of the screwball traditions. Borrowing from every period of movie comedy, notably primitive slapstick and Marx Brothers zaniness, Some Like It Hot is madcap 1920s satire, depending for most of its humour on a sort of transvestite comedy carrying an ever-so-slender story-line, and Wilder thumbs his nose at just about every rule in the Hollywood book.
