Presented in conjunction with the City Gallery exhibition roundabout° Flying Nun records founder Roger Shepherd presents a condensed history of the record label and the legendary ‘Dunedin Sound’ via documentary footage and music videos.
Tracing a chronological line from the labels early 1980s, Flying Nun on Film begins in Dunedin and ends on the streets of Manhattan.
The 1982 Radio with Pictures documentary Friends of the Enemy charts the anti-fashion stance of early post-punk Nun groups such as The Stones, while the 1995 music video for the New York-based Bailter Space employs high production values aimed squarely at the alternative branches of the MTV audience.
